New $75 million Anglesea Hospital orthopaedic project underway

Anglesea Hospital is expanding with the development of a new on-site Orthopaedic Hospital, in partnership with Evolution Healthcare and leading Anglesea Hospital specialists.

The $75 million project is now underway, with early earthworks commencing this month. Once complete, the new facility will feature:

• Four state-of-the-art operating theatres
• 24 inpatient beds
• High Dependency Unit (HDU) capability

The new Orthopaedic Hospital is being built on the existing Anglesea Hospital site and is due for completion in Q4 2027.

Anglesea Hospital General Manager Nicky van Praagh says the development is designed to deliver an outstanding patient experience, guided by best-practice clinical standards and sustainable design principles.

Purpose-built spaces designed for recovery, advanced equipment and optimised patient flow will mean shorter surgery times, smoother admissions and much more comfortable recovery environments.”

Part of this future-proofing includes the ability for a further 21 beds and two more operating theatres to be added to the new hospital when required.”

This project represents the most significant expansion of Anglesea Hospital since it was established in 2007.

Project works underway

The Early Works contract has been awarded to local contractor Commercial Constructions and includes:

• Stage 1: Earthworks (currently underway)
• Stage 2: Commencing February next year, including removal of the original hospital canopy
  • Access will be maintained via temporary shipping container walkways

Main contract works are yet to be awarded.
