Michael was awarded the Keith Kirkland prize in 1996 for experimental work in TURP, and he was also awarded a BAUS prize for work in local anaesthetics in prostate biopsy.
Current research interests include Botox in prostate and contrast enhanced ultrasound for prostate biopsies.
A key clinical interest is in prostate cancer – how we should detect it and who should we detect it in, and how can we reduce pain of biopsy and improve accuracy of biopsy. Another clinical interest is in using high powered loupoe magnification in radical prostatectomy, which has led on to the same approach for vasectomy reversal.
